IT’S NOT MAGIC, JUST SCIENCE.

What are the benefits of manuka honey?
Is it a medicine? How does it work?

Methylglyoxal (MGO) makes mānuka the world’s strongest honey.

The high concentration of Methylgyoxal is only found in mānuka, and is responsible for its health-promoting benefits.

Methylgyoxal (MGO) is the main health-promoting component in mānuka honey. MGO has naturally antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory qualities.

Mānuka can therefore greatly help you with all sorts of common concerns (see below).

In fact, mānuka honey is generated the same way as other floral honeys. The honeybees harvest the nectar of the blossom. What differs is the formation of high MGO concentrations.

The mānuka blossoms contain high levels of dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA naturally converts to MGO in the ripening process of the honey. This is unique to the flowers of the mānuka tree, also referred to as the New Zealand tea tree.

Next to methylglyoxal, mānuka contains low PH levels, high sugar content, and low water content. This can prevent the growth of microbes.

It contains fructose, glucose, maltose and sucrose – but has no fat, fibre or protein.

“100 MGO” products contain 100+ milligrams of MGO in every kilogram of honey (100mg/kg). 100 MGO indicates mild to moderate activity, found in MAHŌNI DAILY.

“600 MGO” products contain 600+ milligrams of MGO in every kilogram of honey (600mg/kg). 600 MGO indicates strong activity, found in MAHŌNI ACUTE.

Experiences have shown that 600+ MGO works best for more acute needs. The strongest mānuka that exists contains around 1.000 MGO.

Our honey is 100% natural: Nothing has been added or taken away.

Benefits

  • Mānuka honey helps to maintain a clear skin, by helping to prevent blemishes and reduce the risk of skin breakouts. It also has a favorable effect on sun-strained skin.
  • There are many ways to treat skin problems. Mānuka honey may provide a natural and well-tolerated additional treatment for acne, pimples, and other blemishes.

How it works

  • Research on Methylglyoxal shows that the antibacterial qualities inhibit the growth of bacteria on the skin. Further, the low pH-levels provide an unsuitable environment for bacteria.
  • One of the most common sources of blemishes and problematic skin is bacteria. Bacteria feeds off of the grease on your skin, causing inflammation.
  • The anti-inflammatory properties and low pH levels are helpful in easing sun-strained skin.

our information stems from Peer-reviewed recognized journals.

All of our research and statements are based on peer-reviewed journals. Recognized medical and biological journals worldwide have conducted research on mānuka honey for applications inside and outside the human body, and have studied Methylgloyxal. We collected it and drilled it down for you, to make it readily understandable.

MAHŌNI products are considered nutraceuticals, not medical products.

Mānuka is becoming widely-used as a functional food. It is described as an emerging natural food with medicinal use. Mānuka’s natural power is being studied in medical research now more than ever.
